Average energy prices in Maryland—and how rebates can help
Maryland’s electricity costs are about 4% higher than the national average, according to a March 2023 analysis (1). According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the Mid-Atlantic region pays about $0.17 per kilowatt hour (2).
That may not seem like much, but it can add up quickly.
And natural gas? Well, those costs fluctuate a bit more unpredictably. As of February 2023, on average, folks in the Mid-Atlantic area pay about $1.95 per therm—about 20% more than the national average during that same time period (3).
Yikes.
For the most accurate energy costs, check your utility bill (of course!) or updated BLS data. But no matter what you pay, cutting energy waste in Maryland is a good thing. So much so that local programs incentivize upgrades that can help you conserve.
Plus, it’s likely your house is wasting energy in places you’re unaware of or can’t easily see. (Does your home have hidden, uninsulated attics? Some do!)
It’s likely your house is wasting energy in places you’re unaware of or can’t easily see.
But don’t worry. That’s where Sealed comes in. Our home energy experts can help you identify and address hidden sources of energy waste.

And the best way to mitigate ever-increasing energy costs? Use energy as efficiently as possible.
But that doesn’t mean you have to shut off your AC or heat when you need them most—or constantly be in the middle of thermostat wars with your family.
Maryland residents can significantly reduce home energy waste through three key improvements:
- Top-to-bottom high performance insulation—including both your attic and foundation
- Whole-home air sealing
- Heat pump upgrades
The good news?
Federal tax credits, state, and local energy rebates can help make these upgrades more affordable.
(Yes, even your utility company wants you to conserve energy. It benefits them, too!)
