How we’re getting back to work—safely

Work is beginning to resume in certain areas of New York. Here’s how we’re keeping our contractors and customers safe.

Work is beginning to resume in certain areas of New York. Here’s how we’re keeping our contractors and customers safe.

On May 15, most regions of New York reopened to certain industries, including construction. It’s likely that more regions will follow suit in the weeks ahead (you can monitor the progress at the New York forward monitoring site).

As we resume in-home visits and installations at Sealed, we will be following the guidance of the state of New York. Here are the steps we’re taking to keep our contractors and customers safe.

In-Person Verification Visits

For customers that have already signed contracts with Sealed, the first step will be an in-home visit from your contractor to verify the scope of work. During this visit, contractors are required to:

  1. Wear a paper mask, or preferably N95 mask if available
  2. Wear gloves at all times
  3. Politely avoid shaking hands with customers
  4. Maintain a 6’ social distance from customers whenever possible
  5. Avoid hand-to-hand exchange of documents. If documents need to be exchanged the contractor will place them on a table or other surface that can then be cleaned.
  6. Keep the time of the home visit to a minimum

During these verification visits, we also ask that customers:

  1. Wear a face mask upon the arrival of any contractor employees, both to protect themselves and the crew. The mask should stay on while they are in the same room or area of the home with the contractor.
  2. Confirm, prior to the visit, that no family members are sick or have recently been sick

Installations

After the verification, work will be ready to start. Installations typically take a day or two, and during this time we’re requiring our contractors to follow stringent safety guidelines.

  1. All crew members must wear at minimum an N95 mask, gloves, and floor-protective booties. A coverall suit is highly recommended. All protective equipment must be in place prior to exiting the work vehicle.
  2. Minimize the number of required crew members in the house at any one time
  3. Wipe down all surfaces touched in the customer’s home with sanitizing wipes or other CDC-approved cleaners
  4. Politely avoid shaking hands with customers
  5. Maintain a 6’ social distance from the customer whenever possible
  6. Avoid hand-to-hand exchange of documents. If documents need to be exchanged the contractor will place them on a table or other surface that can then be cleaned.
  7. Wipe down all installation equipment and touched work vehicle surfaces (knobs, steering wheels) with sanitizing wipes or other CDC-approved cleaner before returning to the office

We also ask that customers follow the same precautions observed during the verification:

  1. Wear a face mask upon the arrival of any contractor employees, both to protect themselves and the crew. The mask should stay on while in the same room or area of the home with the contractor.
  2. Confirm, prior to the install, that no family members are sick or have recently been sick

Off-site safety measures

In addition to these on-site precautions, our contractors must also adhere to the following procedures at their offices:

  1. Conduct daily team health checks. If any crew member feels sick or shows signs of illness, they must stay home and avoid the office and/or job sites.
  2. Do not send any employees to a customer’s home if they are coughing, sneezing, or showing any symptoms related to Covid-19
  3. Before departing for customer homes, check the temperature of each employee with an infrared/touchless thermometer
  4. Educate employees on how to spot signs of Covid-19
  5. Wipe down internal office surfaces (computers, equipment, etc.) at least twice daily

Putting safety first

Inviting someone into your home is an act of trust. And we’re proud to go above and beyond, however we can, to honor that trust. In the weeks and months ahead, we’ll continue to inform customers of everything we’re doing to keep our work safe and secure.
